• Vince Staples 1 Vince Staples w/ Kilo Kish @ 930 Club Washington DC March 31 2017

This was probably one of the better live shows I’ve seen in a while. Kilo Kish opening was fantastic. Her set displayed her love for performance art. Her set was very theatrical, contained great music, and a very entertaining. Also, just when you think you’re doing something you see someone doing ten times better. Kilo Kish’s one man band was very impressive. I’m not sure if many others in the building noticed him constructing the tracks from the ground up on the spot and on time. Then alternating between riffs on the guitar, piano, and inserting effects live. It was impressive to see this guy work.

The room filled in and it was time for Vince Staples to take the stage. Perched up on the second floor of the club I had a great view of the stage. Vince commanded it for an hour, all by himself. As far as I could tell, he didn’t have a dj or hypeman. He put on an amazing performance. All by himself. Definitely a highlight for 2017 concert going.

  • BBS_KevinAbstract Kevin Abstract @ Songbyrd House March 3 2017

Last Fall I got myself into a little trouble with the fans from The Shane Show for saying that an interview Shane did with Kevin was “flat”. Full disclosure, I couldn’t understand why a powerhouse manager like Christian Clancy would add an artist like Kevin Abstract to his roster. However, after catching Kevin on what I believe was his first stop in Washington DC I now understand what he sees.  Kevin reserves himself for his music and performances.

The fellas in Brockhampton put on a performance that didn’t disappoint. Kevin’s stage set up was engaging and something you don’t really see from an artist on their first solo tour. It was refreshing to see someone had thought about the details. DJ Romil did a nice job of warming the crowd up with the latest hits to get everyone lit. I enjoyed Kevin’s set. Having Roy Blair on stage with him backing Kevin up and singing hooks is a great look. The front part of the set was loaded with my personal favorites from his latest release American Boyfriend.  This made the last half of the show drag a bit for me. The sold out crowd and energy in the room made for a great performance. At the end of the show I made sure to stop by the merchandise booth to meet Stay Broke Nick and cop some gear. Long sleeve tour t-shirt and a hoodie that my “crush” liberated and has conveniently miss placed.

I’m looking forward to watching Kevin Abstract grow. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye Brockhampton gang.

Second annual visit with The Character to work on our music projects and catch Tyler the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw. This year trip to LA marks 3rd annual SO { Standing Ovation} “bro-down”. We recorded 4 new tracks that we’re excited to share with you.

This year Camp was two days! Among some of the highlights was seeing Chance the Rapper, Rae Sremmurd, Action Bronson, Joey Badass, Toro Y Moi, Anderson Paak, Death Grips, Left Brain, School Boy Q, A$AP Rocky, and of course the man himself Tyler the Creator.  The second night of CFG included a performance by Ear Wolf that was memorable. Tyler encouraged this years camp goes to put their phones down. Meet new people and discover a new band. So, I did just that. One of the newer groups I had no clue about was Gallant. They were very good musicians.

One of the highlights of this trip was meeting my Shanemundi family.  There’s a radio show what has brought together a great community of kids that all are very unique and artistic. I’ve was lucky to meet some of the kids that I’ve been communicating with in person. Also, meeting the man himself, Shane Powers.

I wanted to elaborate more, but my procrastination has allowed some of the details to get a little blurry. I’ll always have the memories though.  Remember, find your wings!
